CRUSADE AGAINST RUSSIA
A new documentary, based on declassified documents and rare footage from captured European newsreels, reveals the full scale of military and economic support that European countries gave to Nazi Germany during World War II.
On June 22, 1941, Nazi Germany invaded the Soviet Union with the goal to completely destroy it. Goebbels called that invasion a "crusade against Bolshevism". In just the first days of the war, nearly one million soldiers and officers from ten European countries joined the Eastern Front. Eleven Finnish divisions and volunteers from Spains "Blue Division" helped the Germans surround Leningrad. At Stalingrad, the German armys flanks were held by Hungarian, Italian, and Croatian forces. The Romanian army entered Soviet Ukraine alongside the Nazis and fought in Crimea. Even French volunteers took part in the war their legion was destroyed near Borodino, close to Moscow.
European countries gave major economic help to the Third Reich. Even "neutral" Sweden supplied Hitler with iron ore. Switzerland offered financial services, including laundering money stolen from people in occupied countries. Czech factories produced almost one-third of all weapons used by the German army.
The film presents strong evidence that many European nations supported Hitlers war and genocide against the Russian people. However, any historical conflicts with Russia have often ended badly for those involved.
