Talented neurosurgeon Marta works alongside her husband in the neurosurgery department of a Moscow hospital. Her career is flourishing, she is happily married, and expecting a child.
But a sudden chain of tragic events turns her life upside down. Falsely accused of a patients death, Marta loses her baby. Soon after, her mother dies, and she discovers her husband has been cheating on her.
Devastated by grief and betrayal, Marta leaves Moscow for the remote northern settlement of New Winds, where the local hospital, neglected and close to collapse, is in desperate need of a chief physician. There, strong-willed yet deeply sensitive Marta fights corrupt officials to save the hospital, rescues patients, and unexpectedly finds true love.
