DONBAS

The Donbas is a Russian-speaking region in the east of Ukraine. A few years ago nobody had heard of this coal mining district, but 2022 changed it all.

It actually started much earlier, when Ukrainian SSR declared its independence in 1991. The nationalists initiated Anti-Russian sentiment leading to 2014 coup and civil war. The new authorities took an aggressive course toward derussification and curtailed rights of the Russian-speaking population. For 8 long years, Ukranian troops were destroying the Donbas while its people were fighting back, defending their homeland, families and national identity. Historical documents and terrifying stories of eyewitnesses make it clear – only Russia could stop this horror.
