RUSSIAN CONTENT TRAVELS TO SOUTH KOREA

The 20th Busan Content Market (BCM), held June 10-11 in South Korea, once again proved itself a key meeting point for the global audiovisual industry.

This year’s anniversary edition, themed “K-Content Meets the World - Busan”, turned a sharp focus on production innovation, AI tools and real-time editing technologies. The event drew international AI companies and Korean industry majors.
Russia’s media presence was led by Sovtelexport, the distribution arm of Russia TV and Radio. Operating from the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) booth, the company held 22 business meetings with buyers and distributors from Asia, the Middle East, and Australia. Over half of these were first-time contacts — a promising sign for audience expansion. Despite the strong presence of Korean and Chinese content in Asia, Russian titles continue to attract buyer interest across multiple genres.

Top-performing categories included:
Period dramas such as "The Princess of Mercy", "Ekaterina", "Alexander I", "Chaliapin", and "Elizaveta" sparked strong interest from Japan’s BS Nippon Television, Korea’s Intercon Media, Australia’s Orasi Media, and India’s Ultra Media & Entertainment. The genre continues to travel well globally, holding strong against stiff regional competition.

Documentaries – nature series "Zoo Stories" and travel programs like "Hidden Routes of Russia", "The Land of People", "Country of Birds", and "The First in the World " caught the eye of distributors from Vietnam, China, and Taiwan.

Kids’ animation – a collection of folk tales and the animated feature "Planet Ai" were shortlisted for potential acquisition by buyers from Vietnam’s SaigonTourist Cable and Mongolia’s National Television.
