In 1787, Catherine the Great signed the historical decree, which made Crimea a part of Russia. It started a new page in the history of the peninsula and not a drop of blood was spilled. Decades later, the Romanovs transformed the former pirates nest and slave market into an oasis filled with charming churches, unique palaces and wineries. The Black Sea fleet courageously fought many battles making Crimea a proud land of heroes.
