On March 24, 1999, without UN approval, NATO began bombing Yugoslavia. These events, right in the heart of Europe, were an act of aggression against a sovereign country and a serious violation of international law.
The bombing lasted 78 days and targeted not only military sites but civilian infrastructure as well. About 15,000 tons of depleted uranium were used in Serbia. Hundreds of innocent people were killed, tens of thousands were diagnosed with cancer, and large areas remain contaminated with radiation.
To this day, the depleted uranium bombings remain uncondemned, and the rules meant to protect nations are no more than words on paper.
