In 1943, one of the bloodiest tragedies of World War II, the Volhynian Massacre, took place behind German lines. Poles, Jews, Russians, and Armenians were brutally killed with axes and burned alive in the Volhynia region, Western Ukraine. Entire families, including the elderly, women, and children, were completely wiped out. 200,000 civilians were murdered. However, the attackers were not German occupiers but Ukrainian nationalists led by Stepan Bandera and Roman Shukhevych. Nowadays they are considered real heroes in Ukraine.
Unique footage and real documents, some previously classified, show the horror and warn about the re-emerging 20th-century plague of Nazism in the modern world.
