On October 30, 1961, a Soviet bomber dropped a test thermo-nuclear bomb over the Russian Arctic. The mushroom from its explosion rose to a height of 70 kilometers, earth tremors were fixed by seismographs all over the world. It seemed that the end of the world was imminent.
