In World War II, children did not have the charm of childhood. A Russian girl, Sasha, is scared of bombs, but when the bombs stop, life becomes even worse. German soldiers take over her city. Left with no food and no school, she hides tears from her mother, while people are taken to Germany or are killed on the street. All because of war... War is also on the mind of Margot, a young German girl. She wonders about her breakfast, and why she can have only one piece of bread with marmalade instead of two. All because of war...
