The Cuban Missile Crisis Khrushchev was bluffing, when he shipped nuclear missiles to Cuba in the October of 1962. Americans did not know that this was simply the well-prepared misinformation, because Soviet missiles, which were noticed by the American reconnaissance planes, in fact had no nuclear war-heads. Furthermore, Soviet submarines did not have enough cruising range to reach the object secretly, as they needed to surface. However, Americans took this weakness of the Soviet submarines as a show of strength. New facts from the history of the Cuban Missile Crisis are based on declassified documents of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Russian Federation.
